Laws of Copyrights
I was a little familiar with copyright laws before reading this section. I understand why these laws are necessary, it is important that the maker of the work receives full credit. I was a bit surprised, however, to learn how much of a song or movie clip can be used. I thought it would be okay to use the entire song and a much longer movie clip. It is so important for teachers to be aware of these laws before they present materials in their classrooms because of the examples they set for their students. Our culture has such a high piracy rate from computer software that copyies rented movies to music programs that allow you to download songs for free and copy them onto a cd. It I ever have any questions regarding copyright laws, I will most definitely consult the school's librarian.

Technology in the Classroom
Technology offers so many effective resources and programs that teachers can integrate into their curricula. Inspiration offers great graphic organizing skills, making it possible for students to brainstorm science projects, written assignments, etc, so that their final project can be well-developed. It is easy to use; lots of teaching and brainstorming time isn't lost by having to teach the students a difficult program. I think a program like photostory could also make different projects more fun and interesting. I have a feeling (as a future elementary school teacher) that my students' age groups would love recording their own narration to such a visually stimulating project. Podcasts could be tons of fun, as well. A teacher could have his or her own podcast providing notes on certain topics, or assignments (etc), or the students could even do a news report, mock interview, or presentation, and the class could have unlimited access to it. I think two essential programs to present-day teachers are Microsoft Expression Web and blogs. I feel that Expression Web helps the owner of the webpage add awesome personal touches while not being hard to understand or input unto the actual website. I think that blogs add ample opportunities to keep in touch with students and parents concerning assignments, announcements, test days, questions/tutoring - it is an incredible contact tool that I plan on keeping up with in my classroom 100%.

Good Use of Technology
In this class I have learned many new ways to use technology in the classroom. There are many ways to incoporate teachnology. For example, a teacher could use photostory, inspiration and blogs. Photostory can be used in projects with information and pictures. Inspiration can be used to come up with ideas for a project. Blogs can be used to communicate with other students across the United States. Those are probably the only ones I would use in my classroom.
Technology
I really enjoyed viewing Thursday's class Science Fair videos. I think that everyone did a great job, but Group E's Gak experiment was the most interesting. Group E did a greaat job explaining the process of creating gak and the video was fun to watch.
I think that it is very important to teach students the importance of technology. Technology has become very popular over the last decade, and students need to understand it to help them progress educationally. As a future teacher, I am going to teach my students about Blogging. Blogging is a great way for students to discuss current events around the world, work as teams, and improve their writing skills.

Science Fair Video Experiences
I really enjoyed working with my group. We had fun learning how to edit the video and record the experiment. I learned alot about using the program to edit videos from my group. If I had to do this by myself I could not have done it. We had no problem getting together and meeting.
Any subject topic taught in school would make a good eduational video. Anything that the students can learn about. I think with making a video it will be something different and new for how a student can learn. The main characteristics that make a good video is the information in the video.
Teachers need to know they are teaching the material correctly and in a good educational way. Teachers need to edit it in an interesting and fun way. If the students are in the video all the students need to have a part in the video are helping out behind the scenes.

Science Experiment Experiences
We did our science experiment on testing the relationship between the sense of taste with the sense of smell. I enjoyed working with my group and thought everyone participated equally. It was a positive experiences because we all got along really well. This project was a bit of a challenge when it came to editing our video. When we uploaded the video to movie maker, single clips were broken up into several clips. This made it very difficult to clip it correctly. Also, when we went back to look at our clips, there was one that had buzzing in the background... and there was no way for us to delete it.
Looking at our video, I think we could have possibly shown our science experiment in a way that would of had less silence... there were long pauses in the video, while we watched the taste tester chew their starburst. Instead, we could have shown some interesting facts, then come back to the taste tester to get their results. To keep interest, videos need to maintain sound and movement.
Overall, this was a great experience... and I think all of us learned a lot.

EDMD video project
Working on the science fair video was challenging and fulfilling. There were so many elements to the assignment that can appeal to people with different interests.
I really enjoyed working with my group on the assignment. We worked together really well - gave constructive feedback/criticism when it was needed, and we all fulfilled our responsibility to the group. All of us have different gifts, and we were really able to capitalize on what we were all good at doing in order to create our video.
Editing can do so much to create a good video. Adding things like music, transformations, and captions really helps the video be just as interesting as it is educational or informative. Understanding how to work a video camera really helps, too! Kristin made the video more interesting by zooming in and out of the clips during important cuts. I'm so glad I was able to do a project like this in our class, because I'm not sure I could have done it alone.
Teachers should definitely understand the windows movie maker program really well before using it in the classroom. It is not a hard program to understand, but the teacher should not begin a movie maker project before understanding the ropes of movie maker, because he/she and his/her students will be lost. The teacher needs to understand how to split clips, add music, add informative captions effectively, and add transformations so that the teacher may show his or her students how do to all of it. It would also be helpful if the teacher knew how to work the video camera properly so that the teacher could film the videos or help someone in the class film effectively - holding the camera still, zooming in and out of different clips. It can be a difficult project to do if the teacher does not stay organized.

I really enjoyed creating a science fair video with my grouup. I learned that it takes dedication, skills, and teamwork to create a successful video. To make a successful video, it is important that everyone works together and complete their share of the work. Its also important that each student is knowledgeable about the topic of the video, so that they can explain the correct information to their audience. As a future teacher, it is important to know what interest students have when encouraging them to create a video. If the students enjoy the video topic, the more effort they will put into it.

I really enjoyed todays class working with my group. We got together to brainstorm ideas, to create a Science Fair video on a topic of our choice. We decided to test whether the sense of smell has a relationship to the sense of taste. We will do this by blind folding one of our group members, and letting them taste skittles with their nose clamped and then retaste the same skittle with their nose unclamped. I am really looking forward to putting our creative collaboration on video. WAR EAGLE!!
Video Project
I think that this video project will be very rewarding and fun. I am a little worried about it because I'm kind of camera shy, but I think it's going to be a very worth while project. In the classroom, I know that elementary school students would love to do a video sort of project. It really connects with their generation and would make the project as much fun as it is informative. Doing a project like this will also help the students organize their project before performing it, which helps them learn and retain the purpose of their experiment. I think that this project will be very enjoyable to our class and that it is something we will be able to use in our future classrooms.

Class reflection
Today in class we got together and worked on our coming up group project. I really like my group that I work with in this class. Camillia, lili and me work well together. I think doing this video will be a fun project. Using inspiration is new to me but it is a neat program and can be very useful. Our video will be about a science experiment dealing with the senses of smell and taste.
I learned a lot of interesting facts about copyrighting that I had know idea existed.I learened that teachers could not make a copy of their audiovisual materials, and if a teacher tapes a show off the televison, they can only play it for forty five days to their classroom. Who would have thought that copying a VHS to a DVD for your classroom to watch would be copyright infringement. I was amazed to see how strict the copyright laws were and as a future teacher I feel that this lesson has helped me become a better professional.

A Double Up Entry :)
Since this is my week to blog, I'm doubling up and posting my blog and the copyright discussion in the same entry :).
First things first!
This class has been very fun, challenging, and informative. I was a little nervous at first because I don't know a drastic amount about computers and technology, only enough to get by, really - but I feel that I have a much better understanding even now! I am really enjoying doing our webpage. I think sometimes I am having a little too much fun trying to make the page creative and expressive, but I am thoroughly enjoying myself. My favorite new program I've learned about is Photo Story! I had a blast making my photo story and I think it is an application that students would love to use. I think it is a new, creative way to express one's life story or something they'd like to teach the world!
I really enjoy Auburn University. I think there are so many friendly people here, and it's relaxed atmosphere makes me feel at home and put things into perspective. I have always felt like I was a part of a really big family. It's too bad that our football team is not doing well this year.. Oh well. It happens to everybody. Football in America isn't like every other country's version of football, where you can't touch the ball with your hands and dribble down to the net to score. It's actually very complex and I've often wondered what in the world football Americana's founder was thinking when he thought it up, but it is still very entertaining. Our ball is shaped kind of like a lemon and the players actually throw the ball with their hands and run while holding it. I'm not quite sure why they call it football :P.
Have any of our Seoul friends had Italian food? It is my absolute favorite! What are your favorite Korean sports and foods?
Until next time,
~Lili

COPYRIGHT ASSIGNMENT:
The most surprising part about copyright is how "fine print" it all really is. It never occurred to me that copying a VHS to a DVD, simply for a digital showing (nonprofit) would be copyright infringement. I probably didn't think about it because it is so easy to copy a VHS to a DVD on the duo VHS/DVD players. Teachers really need to keep copyright issues in mind since our entire careers revolve around presenting information to an audience. When I need to use copyright objects in my classroom, I will research how I can go about it properly (i.e., seeking permission from creator) and present the information in a respectful manner or simply find another means to teach my class if my first plan violates copyright law. Adjustments like that need to be made because it simply isn't fair to the creator of the copyright material for other's to use it without proper permission.

copyright questions
Some of the most surprising facts I learned about copyright were teachers could not make a copy of their audiovisual materials, if a teacher tapes a show off the televison they can only play it for forty five days and a teacher is not suppose to copy pages out of a workbook, they are suppose to buy the pages. If I had a question about anything dealing with copyright I would ask the media speicalist at the school.

I was very scared when I first started taking this class because computers make me nervous. As weeks have gone by, I have become more comfortable in class and with the computer. Thank God for Dr. Hur and Megan for their ongoing help, I would be lost in space wiithout them. I am a junior at Auburn University and my major is Elementary Education. I transfered her form Chattahoochee Valley Community College in Phenix City Alabama. My favorite food is Mexican and my favorite color is yellow.War Eagle!!!!

I am not very good at this class. I only use the computer to type papers and check my email. I love attending Auburn and it is a great college. One of the BEST things about Auburn is FOOTBALL SEASON! It is sooooo much fun. I am a transfer student from Southern Union in Opelika. I received a scholarship when I graduated high school. I have always wanted to be a teacher ever since I was little. I believe teaching is what I am suppose to do in my life. Some of my hobbies are playing softball, traveling, scrapbooking and taking pictures.I guess that is all.....

Technological Genius... Or So I Aspire To Be!
I have not been given the technological gift... at all. I have minimal knowledge of computers, I literally use one to check my email, to edit and view my myspace page and to blog on my personal blog page. I am also a nonprofessional photographer, that is, it's one of my favorite hobbies. So I do quite a bit of uploading and editing of my photos. Folks, unfortunately, that is the extent of my knowledge. If my computer doesn't work correctly, I just leave it off for a little while and hope it works correctly when I turn it back on. In the first four weeks of this class, I have already learned a little bit... and I hope to learn a lot more. Even though I am a COMPLETE technological idiot, I DO realize it is so incredibly important to use in my classroom and desire to learn more. I want to be able to challenge, inspire and excite my students... and I do believe technology will help me do this.
